From the latest Construction Update: median restoration on Atlantic Avenue opposite arena could begin Tuesday

According to the latest Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park Construction Update (bottom), covering the two weeks beginning August 14, median restoration work on Atlantic Avenue between Fort Greene Place and Sixth Avenue will likely begin during this week.

That's one block, bordering the Barclays Center and also the perimeter of the Atlantic Center mall (but not the Atlantic Terminal mall).

The MPT (maintenance and protection of traffic) will be shifted, according to approved plans (presumably by the Department of Transportation), starting on or about Tuesday 8/15/17 ,to accommodate the median restoration work. However, the traffic flow will still contain three westbound and two eastbound lanes. The time frame to complete the work was not stated.

Also, relocation of the Vanderbilt Yard site access ramp on Pacific Street will begin during this reporting period. Contractor and LIRR access to the site will be via the LIRR Entrance on Atlantic Avenue.

The update was circulated Friday at 10:18 by Empire State Development (ESD) after preparation by Greenland Forest City Partners. That was more lead time than most Updates, which come after the work has commenced.

More work

According to the update, at B3 (38 Sixth), there will be ongoing work on finishing residential units and on retail storefronts, as well as site work that includes curbs and sidewalk along Dean Street. This presumably started a while ago, but was not specified in the previous update.

At B11 (550 Vanderbilt), there will be ongoing work related to residential units and the "Open Space courtyard," phrasing that suggests the uneasy mix of public and private. The open space work was expected to be completed in the past two weeks, according to the previous construction update.

Saturday and after-hours work

Saturday work could occur B12 (615 Dean), and B14 (535 Carlton), where open space work is ongoing. Then again, pretty much nothing has been happening at B12. No weekend work is predicted at the arena block or at B11.

In the railyard, weekday foundation pile installation in the area of the B10 site may extend work hours up to 5:30 pm and may occur on Saturdays.

Also, ongoing testing for the new LIRR substation may extend weekday work hours up to 7 pm and may require work on Saturday and Sunday.

The demolition that hasn't happened

As stated in the past 31 construction updates, demolition at Block 1120, the railyard block between Sixth and Carlton avenues, could commence upon receipt of Department of Buildings and Department of Transportation permits. A community notice will be distributed. Maybe it's not actually going to happen within this two-week reporting period.
